How Pronamel can help give you stronger enamel and whiter teeth?

A regular oral health care routine is essential for helping to strengthen tooth enamel and protect against erosion. This includes brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste – ideally one that has been specially designed to help protect your tooth enamel from further damage, like Pronamel.

  • Pronamel is designed to help re-harden precious, acid-softened tooth enamel, helping to strengthen teeth. With a low-abrasive, pH neutral formulation, Pronamel toothpaste helps protect your enamel while you brush your teeth.
  • Pronamel's unique formulation delivers minerals to actively help to strengthen your enamel. It also helps to polish away stains for stronger, whiter teeth.

The layer of protection for our teeth
Tooth enamel is the hard, visible, outermost covering of your teeth. Enamel is translucent, giving teeth their sparkle, and depending on its thickness, it shows through the colour of the underlying dentine which varies from light yellow to a grey or blue-like white. It’s the hardest substance in the human body and contains a high percentage of minerals.

Strengthen Teeth - Looking After Your Tooth Enamel
When thinking about how to look after your teeth, it’s important to understand how your daily habits affect your oral health – from your oral hygiene routine, to what you eat and drink every day. All of these factors can affect the health and strength of your tooth enamel (the hard top layer of your teeth that protects the nerves underneath).

The main culprit of tooth enamel erosion is acid. Every day, when we eat or drink things that are high in acids (such as soft drinks, sports drinks, tomatoes and citrus fruits), it can soften our tooth enamel and cause it to temporarily lose essential minerals.

As it wears away your enamel over time, acid erosion can expose the dentine layer underneath, causing a dull, yellow-ish discolouration in your teeth. If your enamel has been eroded, you may also start to experience sensitivity or pain when consuming hot and cold food and drinks, or find that the biting edges of your teeth are becoming worn down. Unfortunately, enamel loss can also mean that you are at a greater risk of developing cavities (holes in your teeth) later on.

For all these reasons, it’s essential to know how to protect your teeth from the irreversible effects of acid erosion.

Pronamel toothpaste is also suitable for people with sensitive teeth.

Can tooth enamel be restored?
Even though enamel is a strong substance, once enamel erodes or gets damaged, it cannot be regenerated—so it’s important to protect it. Knowing how to protect and preserve your tooth enamel from erosion and decay begins with a basic understanding of what enamel is, how it gets damaged, and the steps you can take on a daily basis to protect it.

What is Acid Erosion?
Acid erosion is common, yet, many people are unaware of the effect it can have on their teeth.

Acid erosion is an oral health concern that continues to grow in prevalence. Acid erosion (also known as erosive tooth wear, enamel erosion or tooth erosion) is the process that can lead to the irreversible loss of precious tooth enamel (the tooth’s hard surface layer).

Acid erosion is primarily caused by acids contained in many everyday acidic foods and drinks, including some healthy choices like fruit and juices. When acid comes into contact with teeth, the hard enamel surface can temporarily soften, leaving it more vulnerable to damage from contact with other surfaces such as other teeth and a toothbrush.

Brushing too hard can speed up wear caused by the acids contained in food and drink. This is particularly important in the minutes after eating or drinking acidic foodstuffs when enamel is most susceptible to damage. Other causes can be regular use of acidic medication or gastric reflux.

Protecting your teeth from acid erosion begins by understanding exactly what it is, what causes it, how it differs from cavities and what you can do to help prevent it.
