Overview

Iglü Protect Orthodontic Brace Gel 10g

Iglü Protect  is a non-medicated alternative to help prevent and relieve mouth sores and ulcers caused by dental braces. In contact with saliva inside the mouth Iglü Protect forms an adhesive, malleable and protective coating over and around protruding areas of dental braces to help prevent them damaging adjacent soft tissue.

  • It also forms a coating over mouth sores and ulcers to protect damaged areas as they heal.

Iglü Protect works by creating a lasting protective gel barrier, which sticks in place to smooth over protruding parts of the brace to help prevent them from damaging the soft delicate lining of the mouth etc. It can also be used on sores and ulcers for soothing relief and to protect them as they heal.

Iglü Protect is suitable for use by adults, the elderly, children over 7 years of age.

Key Benefits:

  • Treatment for fast, effective relief of pain from common mouth ulcers.
  • Iglü Protect is a non-medicated alternative.
  • Works by providing physical protection.
  • It has a mild minty flavour.

How Iglü Protect Orthodontic Brace Gel works - Protective barrier technology

Iglü Protect has been specially formulated to help prevent brace rubbing, as well as to relieve sores and ulcers caused by dental braces.

You can use Iglü Protect in two ways:

  1. On your brace: You can use Iglü Protect as soon as you start wearing your brace, to make a soft padding over any parts that are sticking out, thereby helping to prevent rubbing.
  2. On sores or ulcers inside the mouth: You may also want to use Iglü Protect on any mouth sores or ulcers already caused by your brace. It forms a lasting protective barrier to shield them from rubbing, helping to relieve any discomfort and helping to protect them as they heal.

How to care for teeth with braces

Braces can cause mouth ulcers and sores – particularly when they are first fitted and after any adjustments – because any protruding parts can rub against the lining of your mouth. However the more you care for your braces, the more comfortable they will be.

  • Brush your teeth and braces after every meal and floss once a day. Be thorough but gentle to avoid damaging the braces.
  • Avoid sticky, chewy and sugary foods. When you first get your brace, eat softer foods at first – hard ones like apples, carrots and crusty bread can break the wires and brackets.
  • Carry on playing your favourite sports etc., but make sure you wear a mouth guard, particularly for contact sports like rugby.

What age of child can use Iglü Protect For Dental Brace Wearers?

How can Iglu Protect For Dental Brace Wearers be cleaned off clothes/fabrics if accidentally spilt?

I have difficulty applying the gel - it just sticks to my finger. Do you have any suggestions?
Iglü Protect For Dental Brace Wearers gel should be applied directly to the affected area with the tip of the finger or a cotton wool bud. If applying with the finger, make sure your finger tip is clean and completely dry before putting Iglü Protect gel onto it. Apply the gel to the affected area with a wiping action, rather than by dabbing it on.

Once the gel is in place on the affected area it feels bulky and 'larger than life'. Is this normal?
It is natural for any 'foreign object' inside the mouth to feel unusual. This is the same phenomenon that often gives us the impression that mouth ulcers are much larger than is actually the case.

My dentist has advised me of the importance of keeping my teeth and braces clean. How do I clean my teeth while using Iglü Protect For Dental Brace Wearers?
Teeth should be cleaned by brushing in the normal way. Ideally the teeth should be cleaned before each application of Iglü Protect For Dental Brace Wearers, brushing as advised by your dentist. Brushing the teeth will remove any previous application of Iglü Protect For Dental Brace Wearers, which will need to be reapplied.

HOW TO STORE IGLÜ PROTECT

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children, particularly young children because the cap may pose a choking hazard.

  • Only use Iglü Gel for mouth ulcers.
  • Do not share it with other people.

Suitable for adults, the elderly and children over 7 years of age.

How to use Iglü Protect Orthodontic Brace Gel

It should be applied to problem areas of the brace, ideally after thorough tooth brushing. If you are treating several ulcers, repeat the simple steps below for each one:

  1. Wash your hands before and after use.
  2. Clean - Use a clean tissue to gently remove excess moisture and saliva from problem areas of the brace, or from sores or ulcers inside the mouth.
  3. Apply - Squeeze a small quantity of Iglü Protect onto a clean, dry fingertip or cotton bud. Apply directly to the problem areas of the brace or any sores or ulcers inside the mouth using a single, gentle wiping action (avoid dabbing). When applying it to problem area(s) of the brace, the aim is to apply enough gel to form a localised coating over and around the brace parts as well as the teeth underneath the brace and the adjacent gum or cheek area. It may take a few tries to find the right amount for you. However, care should be taken to avoid applying excessive amounts which may dislodge and feel uncomfortable.
  4. Activate - The gel might seem paste-like and sticky at first, but on contact with saliva it will form a thick, adhesive and malleable gel. When applying it to parts of the brace, you may find it helpful to use the tip of your tongue to gently form it into a smooth coating over any protruding areas.

Re-apply the gel, following steps 1 to 3 above, as necessary for each ulcer. The aim is to keep the ulcer area(s) protected with a coating of gel. As a guide, each application should normally last for an hour or more, although, on occasions, eating or drinking may make it necessary to re-apply the gel. In some cases, Iglü may remain in place for several hours, as it has strong adhesive properties.

Do not apply excessive amounts of the gel, and avoid applying gel to the back of the tongue and throat area.

  • If you are treating mouth ulcers caused by rubbing from false teeth/dentures etc., avoid using Iglü at the same time (e.g. use the gel at night or when not wearing dentures).

Iglü Protect is not intended for more than a few days of continuous use.

  • Carry on using the product in this way until you can see your orthodontist or dentist.
  • If your condition does not improve, or you think your brace has been damaged or needs adjusting, see your orthodontist or dentist.

If the gel accidentally gets into the eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water and continue rinsing for 10 to 15 minutes, holding the eyelids well apart. If rinsing one eye, take care to avoid washing product into the other
eye. If irritation persists, contact a doctor.

If you use too much Iglü Protect: It may feel unpleasant in the mouth. If this occurs, the product can easily be removed from the teeth and braces by ordinary cleaning with a toothbrush. Any excess attached to the soft lining of the mouth will slowly disperse by itself.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your orthodontist or dentist.

Warnings

Do not use Iglü Protect Orthodontic Brace Gel:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the other ingredients in this medicine as listed.
  • Do not give to children under 7 years.

It is very important that you tell your orthodontist or dentist if you have a mouth ulcer that lasts for more than 3 weeks or keeps coming back, particularly if there is any doubt as to whether it was caused by your brace (i.e. is unexplained). National guidance suggests urgent referral in the case of persistent ulcers, to exclude the rare possibility of oral cancer, which can benefit from early diagnosis and treatment.

Take special care when using this product:

  • Do not apply excessive amounts.
  • Keep the product away from your eyes.
