HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is a common group of viruses. They can be commonly found on the skin and the moist lining in the cells of your body such as the cervix, mouth and genital areas such as the vagina, penis and anus. In most people they do not cause harm but can sometimes lead to genital warts and certain cancers.
The most common type of cancer that HPV causes is cervical cancer, however it can also cause cancers of the anus, penis, throat, vulva and vagina.
It is estimated that around 8 in 10 people are affected with HPV at some point in their lives*.
Most people will have no symptoms and will not go on to develop any serious conditions but in some people HPV can develop into cancer. The risk is higher in those who have multiple sexual partners or have a weakened immune system.
HPV is spread via sexual intercourse (vaginal, oral or anal) or intimate skin to skin contact.

HPV Vaccinations we offer in-Store
The price is £155 per vaccine. The number of vaccines you need will depend on your medical history.
For most people 2 vaccinations given 6 months apart will be required and some might require 3 vaccinations (one on the first visit, a second vaccination 2 months after the first visit and a third vaccination 3 months after the second vaccination).
The vaccine can help protect you against HPV. Whilst there are many different strains of HPV, the vaccine offers protection against HPV type 16 and 18 which cause over 80% of cervical cancers as well as HPV type 6 and 11 that cause 90% of genital warts.**
It is also important to practise safe sex (eg. using a condom), quit smoking and attend cervical screening where appropriate.
The vaccination is available FREE on the NHS in Scotland to all S1 pupils as well as men who have sex with men (MSM) up to the age of 45. Please speak to your GP if your child missed their HPV vaccination at school as they may be able to receive it up until their 25th birthday.
The vaccine is suitable to individuals aged 9-45 (some vaccines offered in this service might not have an upper age limit, this will be discussed at the consultation). The vaccine is not suitable if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is also contraindicated in people who have had previous reactions to HPV or any other vaccines. The pharmacist will ask you some questions during the consultation to make sure it is suitable.
To assist with the consultation, we ask all patients/patient representatives to create an account with our partner Pharmadoctor and fill out the questionnaire (“Start a new consultation” ⇒ “Human papillomavirus”)
The side-effects of the HPV vaccine are mostly mild and subside within a few days. Common (more than 1 in 10 people) side-effects include pain, redness or swelling at the injection site and a potential headache. Less common (fewer than 1 in 10 people) side-effects may include nausea and itching at the injection site. If you have a fever or persistent side effects, make sure to speak to your GP or call NHS 111.

I had a really positive experience at my local pharmacy this weekend. I popped in on Saturday to pick up some eardrops, and the staff let me know that I could also get my ears checked by the pharmacist. The whole process was quick, simple, and really easy. I had my ears checked and went through a hearing test without any hassle, and everything was explained clearly. It’s great to have such a helpful and convenient service available locally - definitely a pharmacy I’d recommend.Posted on Google AnthonyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
