Chickenpox is a highly infectious disease caused by the varicella zoster virus. It appears as an itchy, spotty rash which can sometimes spread all over the body. The rash then turns into blisters that eventually scab over. Chickenpox can also cause a high temperature, pains, and aches as well as a loss of appetite. The disease is more severe in adults and can leave permanent scarring.
Around 90% of adults are immune to chickenpox as they have had the disease in their childhood. For most people chickenpox is not serious and improves within about a week.
However, adults, newborn babies, the elderly, and those with a weakened immune system are more at risk of developing complications such as lung infections and inflammation of the liver and the brain.
Vaccination is the only option to protect yourself from chickenpox. The chickenpox vaccine is not routinely provided on the NHS unless the patient is a close contact of someone who is particularly vulnerable to chickenpox.

The price is £65 per dose. If you pay for both doses upfront you can SAVE £10. The total price would be £120 instead of £130.
At Rightdose, adults and children over 2 years of age can be vaccinated against chickenpox. Two vaccines 6 weeks apart are required to complete the full course. As there is a small chance of transmitting the infection after the vaccination, we recommend avoiding any contact with pregnant women who have not had chickenpox and anyone with a weakened immune system. Such contact should be avoided between the two doses and for 6 weeks after your second dose.
The vaccine is normally given in the upper arm. Please wear loose-fitting clothing or short sleeves that can be rolled up.
