Why hearing care matters?

Good ear and hearing health is important to people of all ages and helps us to get the most out of life. When our ability to hear deteriorates it requires more energy for us to listen and participate in daily life, which can lead to becoming socially isolated as people find it harder to engage with loved ones.

Whilst it is common for certain people to attend routine health check-ups such as eye and teeth procedures on a regular basis, our ears are often left forgotten. This should not be the case. Hearing loss has huge social implications on our quality of life. Hearing loss, if left untreated, can lead to increased risk of falls, social isolation, and is also known to be the single largest modifiable risk factor for dementia.

Commonly Asked Questions

About our Clinic

What will happen during my appointment?

We use the Tympa Platform which is the world’s first all-in-one ear and hearing healthcare assessment platform. We will first take high-definition videos and images of your ears. If ear wax is present, we can offer to have it removed during the appointment. If any other issues are found, we can send the images to be reviewed by Tympa Health’s audiologists and ENT consultants as well as your GP.

A hearing test will also be offered at the end of your appointment.

How is the wax removed?

We use a quick and painless procedure called microsuction which is one of the safest ways to remove excess ear wax. It works by using a microscope and a gentle suction device which allows the ear care specialist to see exactly what they are doing. Microsuction reduces the risk of ear canal / ear drum trauma and protects the ear canal from moisture. You will need to keep your ear dry for about 2 days after the procedure.

Do I need to soften wax prior to removal?

It is recommended to use wax softeners like olive oil for about 5 days before your ear wax removal. We recommend the use of Earolâ which is a metered dose olive oil spray. Ear wax softeners can be purchased of prescribed by the Pharmacist using the Pharmacy First Scheme from Rightdose Pharmacy prior to your appointment.
