Pneumonia is a medical condition that causes inflammation in one or both of your lungs. Bacteria and viruses are the most common causes of pneumonia. It is particularly dangerous and potentially fatal in babies, people over 65 or those with certain medical conditions. These categories of people will usually be eligible for a free NHS vaccination.

Why should I get the pneumonia Vaccine?

Pneumonia can affect anyone at any age. In fact, around 8 in 1,000 people in the UK get pneumonia every year. Therefore, we offer a private vaccination service to allow you protect yourself from pneumonia.

What are the symptoms of pneumonia?

  • Cough – dry or chesty producing thick yellow, brown, green or blood-stained mucus
  • Difficulty breathing and chest pain
  • Increased heartbeat
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite

What are the side-effects of Pneumonia Vaccination?

As with any vaccination, side-effects are possible, but they are usually mild. The most common ones include pain and tenderness at the vaccination site, tiredness, headache, and fever.

Can I get my Flu Vaccine at the same time as my Pneumonia vaccine?

Both can be given on the same day if you meet the below criteria:

  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding (if you are, please contact your midwife or GP for the vaccination)
  • Has not had any allergic or anaphylactic reactions to any previous vaccinations or injections
