Overview

Scopoderm patches belong to a group of medications called antiemetics which are used for travel sickness. They contain an active ingredient called Hyoscine. Scopoderm patches help with the feeling of sickness, vomiting, and vertigo which is the loss of balance. Travel sickness occurs when your bodies internal balance system gets confused receiving different messages from your eyes and rest of your body which in turn causes the symptoms of travel sickness.

Scopoderm patches work by preventing signals from the balance centre in your ears sending messages to the vomiting centre in the brain hence reducing the likelihood of being sick.

Side Effects

Side Effects of Scopoderm
As with all medications, there are some side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some of the sides effects associated with Scopoderm are dry mouth, drowsiness, and blurred vision. A full list of side effects can be seen in the patient information leaflet and it is always advised you read this prior to taking any medication.

Info Leaflet

Before taking any medication, it is important to read the Patient Information Leaflet. You can find information leaflets for your medicines by typing them into the search bar at medicines.org, or by contacting us.

Directions

The patches are to be applied directly to the skin 5 to 6 hours prior to travel. The patch should be applied to a clean, dry and hairless area behind the ear. The patch works for 3 days so if you are traveling for longer than this take it off and apply another. It is water resistant and is unlikely to come off in the water, however, it is suggested that you don’t stay in the water too long. If the patch does accidentally come off carefully dispose of it and apply another.

Warnings

Do not use Scopoderm patches if:

You have had glaucoma or have glaucoma currently.
