Overview

NAD+: A Vital Coenzyme

NAD+ is a crucial coenzyme found in every living cell. It plays a key role in various essential biological processes, including:

  • Energy production: NAD+ is involved in the Krebs cycle, which converts food molecules into energy.
  • DNA repair: NAD+ helps repair damaged DNA, which is essential for preventing diseases and aging.
  • Neuronal signaling: NAD+ is involved in transmitting signals between neurons in the brain, affecting cognitive function and memory.

NAD+ Levels Decline with Age

Unfortunately, our bodies naturally produce less NAD+ as we age. This decline begins around age 30 and becomes more pronounced over time. By the age of 50, you may have only half the NAD+ levels you had in your 30s, and by 70, this level may have dropped to 25%.

Factors That Deplete NAD+

Several factors can further deplete NAD+ levels, including:

  • Alcohol consumption
  • Exposure to pollution
  • Nicotine use
  • Dehydration

The Importance of NAD+

Given NAD+'s crucial role in so many biological processes, a decline in its levels can negatively impact your overall health and well-being. This can manifest in various ways, such as decreased energy, cognitive decline, and increased susceptibility to diseases.

What are the benefits of NAD+ ?

Physical Performance
NAD+ is essential for releasing energy from food. With more NAD+, you can train harder and longer.

Brain Function
NAD+ is essential for transmitting signals between neurons. This helps your brain think more clearly and react faster.

Quality of Life
NAD+ is essential for repairing cellular damage caused by cell replication. This helps protect DNA and contributes to overall health and well-being. By maintaining healthy cells, you can experience improvement in your quality of life.

Metabolism
NAD+ plays a role in many metabolic processes, which affect heart health, diabetes, and weight management.

Physical Appearance
NAD+ helps cells regenerate, which can improve the appearance of your skin and hair. This can lead to healthier-looking skin and hair.

Mood
NAD+ helps improve blood flow and energy levels, and it's involved in the release of serotonin and dopamine. These changes can boost your mood and make you feel better overall.

FAQ

What is NAD+?

NAD+, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a crucial coenzyme found in every living cell. It plays a vital role in over 500 biological pathways, making it essential for life.

Why do we need NAD+?

NAD+ is a vital molecule that is essential for many important bodily functions, including energy production, DNA repair, and brain signaling. When NAD+ levels are low, cells may not be able to metabolize food molecules as efficiently, leading to decreased energy production. Damaged DNA may also be passed on to future generations of cells if it is not repaired. Additionally, low NAD+ levels can impair communication between brain cells, leading to slower cognitive function.

How can people take NAD+?

There are four ways to increase NAD+ levels:

  • Oral supplements: Taking NAD+ pills can be ineffective because the body breaks down NAD+ during digestion. NAD+ precursors might be an alternative, but they're being investigated for potential side effects, such as cancer.
  • IV drip: This is the fastest way to boost NAD+ levels, but it can be uncomfortable and requires a trained professional to administer. An IV drip can deliver 500mg or 1000mg of NAD+ in a matter of hours. However, the effects are temporary, and you may need to repeat the treatment to maintain optimal levels.
  • Intramuscular injections: These injections are more effective for maintaining NAD+ levels but can be extremely painful. They require "drawing up" the NAD+ from a vial into a syringe and using long needles, which many people find uncomfortable. You'll also need to find someone to inject you or inject yourself.
  • Subcutaneous injections: The VAION+ PEN is a convenient and painless way to administer NAD+ subcutaneously. It's designed for easy self-administration and precisely delivers the right amount of NAD+ 4mm under the skin. This method is less painful than intramuscular injections because the fatty layer has fewer nerves and slower blood flow.

Overall, the VAION+ PEN offers the most convenient and least painful way to increase NAD+ levels. It's also a more effective way to maintain optimal levels compared to oral supplements or occasional IV drips.

When and how often should you take NAD+?
  • Initial buildup: Use the VAION+ PEN for three days in a row to increase NAD+ levels.
  • Maintenance: After the initial buildup, use the VAION+ PEN every other day to maintain optimal levels.
  • Timing: It's recommended to take NAD+ in the morning to enjoy the benefits throughout the day.

How much NAD+ should you take?
  • Initial phase: Take 0.2ml (50mg) of NAD+ every day for three days.
  • Maintenance phase: After the initial phase, take 0.2ml (50mg) every other day.

You may adjust the dosage if recommended by a healthcare professional.

What Feeling to Expect When Using NAD+

Your experience with NAD+ will depend on various factors, including your current NAD+ levels, age, and alcohol consumption.

  • Day 1: You might experience a significant boost in energy, sometimes described as feeling like you've had too much coffee. You may also notice a tingling sensation in your fingertips. These effects are temporary and should subside.
  • Days 2-5: As your body adjusts to the increased NAD+ levels, the initial intense feelings will likely decrease. You'll still experience elevated focus, energy, and improved athletic performance and recovery. You may also find that cravings for certain foods, alcohol, and nicotine decrease.
  • Days 7-30: With continued use, NAD+ levels will gradually increase to their natural optimum. At this point, the difference between before and after injections may be less noticeable. However, you should still feel sustained energy, focus, and improved athletic performance and recovery.
  • Remember: Everyone's experience with NAD+ is different. The effects you experience may vary based on your individual circumstances.

How long does it take for the VAION+ PEN to deliver after ordering?

The delivery time for your VAION+ PEN depends on your location and the shipping method chosen. To ensure the NAD+ remains cool during transit, we use specialized packaging with integrated cooling.
If there are expected delays in shipping, such as during bank holidays, we may delay sending your order to prevent the NAD+ from sitting in the package for too long and warming up. This helps guarantee that you receive the product in optimal condition.
We prioritize the quality and freshness of the NAD+ in our shipments, so you can expect to receive your VAION+ PEN in good condition within the estimated delivery timeframe.

My NAD+ cartridge/vial isn't filled to the top, is this normal?

Yes. Your cartridges can contain 3ml when filled to the top, but doing so makes it much more likely for the bung to come out in transit. As a result, we sent you two cartridges with just over 1.5ml in each. We slightly over-fill each cartridge so you get every dose you need throughout the month, despite losing a few drops along the way (clearing any bubbles, discarded with the needle, human error etc).

How can you tell the quality of the NAD+?

When NAD+ degrades, either due to temperature or oxidation through exposure to the air, it changes colour.

Perfect NAD+ is clear, like water. This is how we make it and how we hope you take it.
Good NAD+ can be a pale straw colour. This is also fine to take, but no longer has as much active NAD+ as it could.
Bad NAD+ has an orange tint to it and should be avoided at all costs.

If your NAD+ has a colour you are worried about, please email a photo of the vial against a white background to [email protected] and put it back in the fridge (no not take it) until we are able to advise you.

Is it OK to take NAD+ if you have cancer?

There is conflicting evidence as to the effect of NAD+ on different types of cancer. In some studies, NAD+ has been thought to accelerate cancer cell metabolism, and in others it has been seen to help fight cancer cells. As a result, VAION will not knowingly sell any NAD+ products if you have had cancer of any sort in the past 3 years. If you have/have had cancer and still want to purchase NAD+ products please email [email protected] providing a signed letter from your oncologist stating that it is safe for you.
Please note that your safety is the single most important thing to us and we made this choice out of an abundance of caution.

I have a red mark around the injection site, is this normal?

Yes. This is normal, although not everyone gets it.
The red mark can be the size of a 50p piece, a 5p piece or it can be completely absent. This is individual and reflects your skin’s sensitivity to the pH of NAD+. If you are someone who gets the red mark, don’t worry, it will disappear after a little while and is causing you no harm, being well within the applicable guidelines for pH of injectables.
If you are worried about the appearance of the mark, consider injecting in area that is covered by clothing, such as the buttock.

Is NAD+ the same thing as vitamin B3?

No. They are not the same, but they are related.
Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, includes several compounds such as nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, and nicotinamide riboside. These compounds are precursors that the body converts into NAD+, not NAD+ itself. Your NAD+ levels will be helped by having more “building blocks” to make into NAD+, but supplementing your NAD+ is the most effective way of boosting NAD+ levels.

Why does my NAD+ injection make me feel tired?

Feeling tired after an NAD+ injection is a common side effect for some people. This fatigue can occur during the infusion or develop over the next day or two. Here are a few reasons why this might happen:

  • Adjustment Period: Your body might need time to adjust to the increased levels of NAD+. This adjustment can temporarily make you feel tired as your cells adapt to the new energy dynamics.
  • Detoxification: NAD+ plays a role in cellular repair and detoxification. As your body starts to repair and detoxify, it can lead to temporary fatigue.
  • Energy Redistribution: NAD+ is crucial for energy production in cells. Initially, your body might redirect energy towards essential repair processes, leaving you feeling temporarily drained.
  • This tiredness is usually temporary and should resolve within a few doses.

Directions

Administering NAD+

You'll inject NAD+ under your skin for three days in a row when you start. After that, inject it every other day. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure safety.

Setting Up the NAD+ Pen
  • Prepare the pen and cartridge: Take the pen and cartridge out of the package and let them sit at room temperature for 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the lid: Pull the lid off the pen to expose the clear cartridge holder.
  • Unscrew the cartridge holder: Unscrew the clear cartridge holder from the base of the pen.
  • Prepare the plunger: If the plunger is exposed, press it into the base of the pen with a finger.
  • Insert the cartridge: Carefully insert the cartridge into the clear cartridge holder with the silver tip going in first.
  • Screw the holder back on: Screw the cartridge holder firmly onto the base of the pen.
  • Extend the dose meter: Twist the base of the pen until the dose meter is fully extended.
  • Prime the pen: Push the dose meter and watch the plunger move up inside the cartridge holder. Repeat this until the plunger touches the bung at the bottom of the cartridge and you feel resistance. This primes the pen for use.

Daily Use of the NAD+ Pen
  • Attach the needle: Take a 4mm needle tip from the pack and gently but firmly screw it onto the end of the pen.
  • Clean the injection site: Use an alcohol wipe provided in the pack to clean the injection site. Choose a fatty area like your stomach, thigh, or buttocks.
  • Remove the needle cover: Carefully remove both the inner and outer needle tip covers.
  • Set the dose: Without putting the pen down, twist the base until the pointer lines up with your dose, which is usually 30 units (equivalent to 0.3ml).
  • Pinch the skin: Gently pinch the skin around the injection site to create a small fold. This will help ensure a smooth injection and reduce discomfort.
  • Insert the needle: Place the pen on the injection site and press down firmly to get through the skin. Try to keep the pen steady to prevent bruising.
  • Administer the dose: Press the button at the base of the pen (which will now be the furthest point of the pen from your skin). This will depress the plunger and administer the NAD+ dose.
  • Wait before removing the needle: After administering the dose, count down three seconds before removing the needle. This allows the medication to fully absorb.
  • Replace the needle cover: Carefully replace the outer needle tip cover and unscrew the needle tip with the cover on it.
  • Store the pen: Place the VAION+ pen back in the fridge for storage.
  • Dispose of the needle: Safely dispose of the used needle tip in the sharps bin provided.
  • Rotate injection sites: To avoid skin damage and dimpling, rotate the injection site each time you administer NAD+. Choose a different area within the same region (e.g., stomach, thigh, or buttocks).

Please note that it may not happen in all cases but it is entirely NORMAL to:

  • see a drop of NAD+ on the skin after the injection
  • have a tiny drop of blood on the skin after the injection
  • have a small bruise at the site of the injection (if the needle was not kept entirely still during the injection)
  • have a red mark around the site of the injection. After a while, it will disappear and cause you no harm, being well within the accepted guidelines for pH of injectables. If you're concerned about the appearance of the mark, consider injecting in an area covered by clothing, like your buttocks.

Storing the NAD+ Pen

Keep the pen with the cartridge in the fridge (between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius). Use the cartridges before their expiration date.

NAD+ cartridges that are not yet being used should also be stored in the fridge.
