FAQ
Can you put Peppermint Essential Oil directly on your skin?
No, you should never apply peppermint essential oil, or any other oil for that matter, directly to your skin, as it can cause skin burns and sensitization. Always ensure that you dilute the essential oil properly in a carrier oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil. You can then apply it safely on your skin.
Can you use Peppermint Oil undiluted?
Peppermint is a “hot” oil, which means it creates a warming sensation on the skin when it's applied undiluted. We recommend starting out using Peppermint diluted 1:4 with a carrier oil. If you want to use it undiluted, do a patch test of 1 drop to see how it feels on your skin.
Peppermint oil can be used on its own, in DIY treatments, and mixed with a carrier oil. It's a pretty popular ingredient for a lot of hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, scalp treatments, and deep treatment masks.
What is Peppermint Oil?
Peppermint oil is extracted from the peppermint plant, which grows throughout Europe and North America.
The plant, which is classed as being a herb, is a mix between two types of mint - water mint and spearmint. Both the leaves and the natural oil from the peppermint plant are used for beneficial purposes. The natural oil, where peppermint essential oil originates from, comes from both the flowers and leaves.
The entire peppermint plant contains menthol, which provides a cooling sensation and can help alleviate discomfort. It also has cleansing, purifying and refreshing properties.
These days peppermint is used for all sorts of different purposes and is available in all sorts of different forms, such as tablets, essential oil, tinctures and tea.
Please note Peppermint Essential Oil is for external use only.
