Can I use denture adhesives regularly?

Denture adhesives have a long established efficacy profile when used according to label directions. Millions of people regularly use adhesives which are generally well tolerated when used as directed. Consumers are advised to visit their dentist regularly to ensure correct denture fit.

Is there a limit to the amount of denture adhesive that I can use in a day?

You should always follow label use instructions and use the smallest amount necessary to get the desired benefit. Applied once a day as per usage instructions it has been proven to provide all day hold.

What would happen if I ingest some of the adhesive?

Swallowing small amounts of this product, when used as directed, may occur and is not known to be harmful. Denture adhesive is generally well tolerated and has a long established safety profile.

Ingestion of large amounts of denture adhesive should be avoided. We always recommend using any dental product as described in the product label.

Why do I sometimes experience oozing when using Poligrip denture adhesive?

When you experience oozing of denture adhesive cream from beneath dentures, it's a sign that you’re using too much. If oozing occurs, reduce the amount of denture adhesive that you are applying. Remember, denture adhesive holds all day, so you should not need to apply it more than once a day.

How does denture adhesive seal out food?
Denture adhesives hydrate to form a physical barrier between the gum and the denture surface. This physical barrier serves to help block out food particles from getting trapped between the gums and the denture.

Wearing dentures should never hold you back from your daily conversations although it is true that they can initially affect your speech. However, there are some simple things you can do to get used to speaking with your new denture and making yourself heard.

When you have new dentures fitted, there may be some words you find difficult to pronounce, but this is completely normal. Simply practising repeating and elongating commonly used words and phrases will help you to effectively communicate with your dentures in. You are effectively re-training your mouth to properly enunciate with your dentures in. The letters 'S' and 'F' tend to be the most troublesome, so try it out with words containing these.

Once you have started to get to grips with pronunciation, you need to regain the confidence of speaking whilst wearing your dentures. Try reading the daily newspaper or a book out loud to yourself - this will help you get used to the sound of your voice with your dentures, which will help build your confidence when speaking. Also, try looking in the mirror – like you are practising a speech – as you do it, so you will be able to see your speech pattern looks no different from how it did before having your dentures fitted.

Talking with family and friends is the best way to aid and improve your overall speech. Having somebody you are close to hear your speech pattern can be a massive help, as they can identify which words you are struggling with and may need to practise on. Holding a conversation with your dentures will also make you feel more like yourself and can be a real boost to your confidence.

If you have tried these exercises and are still struggling to adapt to life with your dentures, speaking with your dentist should be the next step. They can offer further advice and information on additional aids, such as denture adhesives, to help put a smile back on your face.

When using it for the first time, sprinkle the powder very lightly. Don't use more if needed. Too much fixative can cause oozing. It may take a few tries to find the right amount for your denture.

Apply once a day for a secure hold. If you need to apply more than once a day, seek advice from your dental care professional.
