How do I use Golden Eye ointment?
Before starting to use the ointment you should wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

• Place the tube close to your eye
• Use your free hand to gently lower your eyelid and look to the ceiling
• Squeezing gently allow 1cm of the ointment to drop into the gap between your eye and eyelid
• Close your eyes to allow the ointment to move around in your eyes
• Repeat for 5 days

• If you get a severe allergic reaction, seek medical help straight away.

Directions of use for Golden Eye Ointment

• Ensure you wash and dry hands thoroughly before use
• Ensure the tube’s nozzle does not touch the eye, the skin around the eye or fingers.
• Position the tube’s nozzle near the eye and very gently pull the lower eyelid downwards and look up.
• By squeezing the tube gently, apply roughly 1cm of ointment to the area between the lower eyelid and eye, then close the eye for a brief moment.
• The above steps can be repeated if both eyes are infected.
• Be sure to place the cap back firmly.

Dose
Approximately 1cm ( a small amount) of the ointment should be applied 3-4 times daily.

If drops are being used during the day, the ointment can be applied once at night just before going to sleep.

Length of Treatment
5 days is the treatment course for bacterial conjunctivitis. Ensure Golden Eye is being used for the full course of treatment and do not stop using it if your symptoms improve as this does not mean the infection has fully cleared and could make the condition worse. Seek medical advice from your doctor if your symptoms do not improve within 48 hours and if your symptoms worsen seek medical advice at once. Golden Eye Ointment should not be used for more than 5 days without consulting your doctor and any remaining Golden Eye Ointment should be thrown away after the 5 days and should not be kept for future use.

Warnings for Golden Eye Ointment
Golden Eye Ointment is for external use and should only be used for the eye(s).

Whilst you are applying the Golden Eye, ensure you do not:

• Breathe on or touch the nozzle of the tube
• Share your eye ointment with anyone else

Do not use Golden Eye Ointment if the individual:

• Is under the age of 2 years old
• Is allergic to chloramphenicol or any of the ingredients within Golden Eye Ointment
• Has had blood problems (particularly decreased number of blood cells) during last treatment with chloramphenicol (the active ingredient of Golden Eye)
• Has a family history of blood conditions (for example, low white blood cell counts, low red blood cell counts, or low platelet counts)

Do not use Golden Eye Ointment and see your doctor if any of the following apply:

• Eyesight has been affected (sight loss, vision reduction, blurred vision or halos around lights)
• Eye pain
• Suffered a blow to the eye or any kind of eye injury
• Inflammation of eye and a rash on face or scalp
• Eye pupil is looking unusual or eye appears cloudy
• Sensitivity to light
• If you believe there may be a foreign body in the eye (which has not been removed)
• Had a recent eye infection
• Had or have glaucoma or dry eye syndrome
• Contact lenses wearer (if advised to use Golden Eye by optometrist or doctor, do not wear your lenses during the course of treatment.Soft contact lenses should not be used for 24 hours after treatment completion.)
• If using any other eye drops or eye ointment
• Had eye surgery or laser treatment in the last 6 months
