Overview

Fungal infections are very common and while they can be very uncomfortable often don’t pose serious medical threats. They are caused by natural fungus (that can live in the air, soil, or water) growing on an area of the body while being too much for the immune system to handle alone. Symptoms of fungal infections can vary wildly depending on the type, however the most common include:

  • Various visible skin changes or discolouration
  • Cracking or peeling skin
  • Itching and irritation

While there are many different types of fungal infections there are several common types that can be easily treated by over-the-counter medication. These include:

  • Yeast infections
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Ringworm
  • Jock itch

Fungus spores can be found everywhere but people are at greater risk if they play or work with soil, share towels, or share sporting equipment. Normally good hygiene is enough to prevent illness, however sometimes an infection can take place anyway.

Rightdose Pharmacy can help with fungal infections as we supply anti-fungal creams, solutions, powders, and nail pens that can quickly clear up mild cases. For more severe infections a doctor can prescribe pills and stronger treatments.

When treating a fungal infection with over the counter medication it is best to keep the affected area clean and dry and wear loose-fitting natural fibers to promote air-flow. Keeping up high-levels of hygiene can both treat and prevent many fungal infections so those who are prone to them should take extra care with their daily routine.
