Allerief is an antihistamine, developed to be used for the symptoms of hay fever, insect bites and other allergic reactions.
It comes in a liquid, so can be used by children from one year and above, as well as adults who can’t tolerate tablets.
Allergic reactions occur when the body mistakes a harmless substance for a harmful one. It then releases histamines to rid the body of the substance. Depending on the allergen, this process can cause:
- Redness and swelling of the skin
- Runny or blocked nose.
- Watery eyes.
Antihistamines block the production of histamines and help to relieve these symptoms.
If you are experiencing the symptoms of an allergic reaction, Allerief can soothe this.
Children aged one or two years old should be given one 2.5ml spoonful a maximum of twice a day.
Two to 6-years olds can be given one 2.5ml spoonful every 4 to 6 hours.
Six to 12-year olds can be given one 5ml spoonful every 4 to 6 hours.
Adults can take one 10ml dose every 4 to 6 hours.
The active ingredient in Allerief is chlorphenamine, which can cause drowsiness, so may want to consider alternatives.
